Need Some Advise...

I am expecting the last piece of wood for my bed tomorrow (it's complicated) and will need to stain and finish the wood ASAP after I receive the last board. What kind of clear have other people used? I was going to use Spar Varnish but have read it remains "soft" when it dries. I have considered urethane but I don't think there is any UV protection in it. I would like to spray on the finish because I'm not real good with a paint brush (I hate brush marks) and most clears have no instructions for spraying. I have considered using automotive clear but don't know if it is compatible with oil based wood stain. Any help would be appreciated.

If I posted this in the wrong place might a moderator please move it. Thanks!

I used Minwax Spar Urethane semi-gloss. It contains a high level of UV blockers. I brushed it on (5 coats, first 2 thinned) and it flowed after brushing so no brush marks were left. It also is expands and contracts with the wood. It does not seem soft to me. The wood almost looks as if it's sealed in plastic. Mar-K has lots of info and test results for many finishes.
