How Rare ?
My friend had a 69 short step that his father bought new. It is 2wd, 4 speed and a 396. Is this a very rare combination?

Re: How Rare ?
I can't answer for rarity, but I will say that it is a highly collectable combination.

Re: How Rare ?
Not real common is how I'd put it. I've seen more C/20s with that engine/trans package

Re: How Rare ?
BB SWB trucks generally account for less than 5% of the total production of trucks for each year, and I'd think most that more of them were autos than not. I'd guess the rarest combo would be a BB 3OTT truck. They did exist, and I've only seen one myself. BB steppers seem to be rarer than fleets as well.

Re: How Rare ?
I've seen more BBC SWBs with 3ott than 4spd. I'm not sure I've ever seen one. I've owned three with 3 ott,one was even a Highland, which could have had an auto as part of the package at no charge. Back then,a truck guy didn't put much faith in automatics in their trucks. Many even scoffed at power steering. I have had C/20s with BBC/4spd,which made sense. The one was a Stepside with all HD options and no frills...in Woodland Green, also known as Dark Green.I wish I still had that one in 100% stock condition.I called it the park ranger truck
