Edlebrock C4B Intake

I picked up this old Edlebrock C4B intake in hopes of swapping it out with my Offenhauser 360 degree intake. I am looking for more low end torque. My problem is that I am concerned that this intake will not work with my HEI. Does anyone have experience with this intake?

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I think that it will clear with no problems. I have no experience with that manifold though. It is older than I am! You may be able to make a few bucks from someone doing a 60s period build.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

If it doesn't clear that will be my plan. The part I'm concerned about is the rear runner. It seems to be taller than on most intakes.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

Just measured a HEI dizzy. There is 2 1/8" from the bottom of the mounting pad to the base where the cap goes.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I just measured the space on the intake. There is only about 1 3/8" on space between the runner and the outer edge of the hole.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

The runner is about 2" tall at an almost 90 degree angle.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I think burnin oil meant you had 2 1/8" clearance in height?

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

If thats the case then my distrubitor might fit. I think I have a spare at the house that I can test fit. I read on a different forum that someone had to grind off some of the runner to get to fit correctly. I might just clean it up and flip for an Edelbrock Perfomer EPS.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I restored an earlier one that that, a C3BX for my 327. Cleared the HEI just fine.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I like funky old parts. After running it a while I changed it to a Performer RPM, but I had other reasons to do so.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

How was it on low end torque? That is my main objective right now. My current intake is gutless when it comes to low end power.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I never had any complaint on the bottom end torque. It would blow the tires off at will.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I've had an old C4B in the garage for over 30 years. An HEI distributor would not fit when I tried the combination on a 79 El Camino that I had at the time.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I'm pretty sure I have an old dizzy lying around I will mock it up later. I'm only in it $60 so I am good either way.

Re: Edlebrock C4B Intake

I just tested the intake with the distributor. The edge of the base hits the top of the runner. It's just barely off probably no more than 1/4" of need clearance. I will probably just sell it and get another type.
