Wood Grain Door Panel Question

I recently looked at a 1972 Chev Cheyenne long box C10. The truck was original ( I am pretty sure) and door panels had the woodgrain on them. Today I found another 1971 Cheyenne and it has the plain flat door panels. I guess my question is do the 71/72 Chevs with the Cheyenne package have the woodgrain door panels?

71's have a deluxe vinyl cover with a woodgrain strip. Here is my 71's interior. Trevor

Re: Wood Grain Door Panel Question

For 71/72, both the Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super trim levels have the woodgrain trim on the doors. 71 looks like what Trevor posted above and 72, well, you know what it looks like with the bigger shaped woodgrain panel. The bump up to the Super level is what adds the dash and glovebox woodgrain (as well as the Custom Cloth (houndstooth) seat cover in Olive, Blue, or Parchment - unless buckets seats are also ordered as an option - they were always full vinyl). Custom and Custom Deluxe trim levels don't have the woodgrain at all. That's a gorgeous interior Trevor.

Re: Wood Grain Door Panel Question

Thanks for the responses and yes Trevor your interior is gorgeous. Mark, you explained it perfectly and that is what I saw. The 72 had the big woodgrain panel on the dorrs and the 71 has just the upper strip. I thought there wouldn't be any difference between the 71 and 72 Cheyenne door panels.

Re: Wood Grain Door Panel Question

Not sure, I bought them from Manes truck parts back in 03 and installed my own components into them back when I was a senior in high school. Trevor

Re: Wood Grain Door Panel Question

'70 Custom & CST and '71 Custom Deluxe,Cheyenne,& Cheyenne Super all have the door panel Trevor shows. In '72 only the Cheyennes & Cheyenne Supers have the woodgrain insert installed over the scroll that Custom Deluxes show

Your best bet is to wait for a nice pair of originals to come along. The best thing to do is keep an eye out on the parts board. I saw your WTB post on there.

Years ago I had a pair I threw away, because they were scratched bad. I wonder if a pair could be hydradipped in woodgrain?
This might help in looking for used ones

Re: Wood Grain Door Panel Question

I have always kept these panels even with bad finish. I figured they could be refinished

Re: Wood Grain Door Panel Question

Here is how I installed an aftermarket glovebox decal. Basically use a lighter very carefully to heat and stretch the decal over the button hole.

Well You Done Good, I Could Not Get The Decal To Lay Down In The Hole, So Cutting The 2" Hole Was My Fix, I'm Happy With It
