Door Seal Problem... Again....
So I understand this is like thread 15 or 20 on door seals, but my problem has been with a set that was supposed to not have this problem of not allowing the door to close completely. I purchased the NO glue push on set nearly a year and 6 months ago from GMCPauls and put them on about 1 year 3-4 months ago. I adjusted the strikers as best I could and still would not close, and had a 1/4" gap. I took the truck to a bodyshop known for adjusting doors and panels on older vehicles and he was able to get another 1/16" to get it down to 3/16" but it still looks like the door is always open. And still have not pressed down even after over a year of being on the truck. So... What seals will allow me to close the doors properly so I dont have to listen to that whistle of the air because of the door seal. Or any other suggestions!? I dont want to have to deal with this issue this cruizing season! Thanks!

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
There's one that I can think of: NOS! However, if that's not in your budget, I'm sure others will chime in with personal experiences. Good luck.

Are the Precisions brand the ones in the green packaging?

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
I have heard many great things about that brand. And it's much cheaper than an NOS will run you

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
I am thinking of doing this too. I bought the push on ones from gmc Pauls because they supposed to be the best. I don't really like them and I think I'm gonna get the original glue in type. Seem to fit better and cover up more of the door where it seals.

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
I used the precision brand push on type from GMCPaul. IMO they are better than the originals. They are tight, but they seal much better. Both doors still are flush with the cab when shut. When the truck came back from paint I installed the strikers and seals, and it was one of the smoother steps in reassembly, lol. I guess it depends on the particular truck. Here is my passenger door.

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
I pulled some push on types from a mid 90's chevy truck at the junkyard for $5.
They were tight at first but have squished down. They never held the door out though. |

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
So what do you recommend now, since the first time I emailed you about them you said that they would squish down within a few months. And it has now been over a year and still the same problem, and when you take them off the door can be aligned perfectly. I am not mad about this, just would really like a properly functioning door.

Post a Want to Buy (WTB) thread. I'm sure someone on the forum has some they are willing to part with. If not, keep an eye out on eBay.

Our Precision door opening seals are exactly the same as everyone else's Precision door opening seals, the ones you received from us our no different than the ones we shipped to our other customers that love them. So other than checking everything related to the door opening I don't know what else to advise honestly. Paul @ GMCPauls Last edited by GMCPaul; 01-20-2014 at 08:55 AM. |

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
I agree pretty much with what Gmcpaul says. It's not going to matter what you've got in there for seals, (yes some are softer), ultimately if the gap on the inside is too tight, it's not going to shut properly.. Something that should be addressed while doing all the alignments.
The outside may line up perfectly, but if the inside bottom of the door is near touching the lip of the pillar or rocker where the seal rides, it's going to bind. I would sit on the inside with the seals off, and check the gaps. It's possible to "tweak" those lips a little in or out, may require a little touch up, but invisible under the seal. If none of this is the case, Disregard all this jibberish....

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
What if your doors were shutting properly prior to putting the new seals in? My doors were shutting fine before; I just wanted to start replacing the old rubber. They have gotten easier, but I still need to slam them to shut properly.

Re: Door Seal Problem... Again....
I just put a set of these in my truck and now the door will not close at all, no matter how hard you slam it.. I tried looking at adjusting the door, but it looks like it is adjusted all the way out now...
Should l shim the hinge out from the cab???
