Need help troubleshooting 6.2 no start

So you may recall a few weeks back I asked some questions about replacing the injector pump in Whitey, and I got a lot of great answers. Went to Injector Warehouse and bought one, started putting it in last week.

Getting it in was a major headache and I had it out once to realign the timing marks. I thought I got it back together right. I know I've aligned the line on the mounting flange with the line on the engine.

Put it all back together...nothing. I've bled all the injector lines of air, I've got diesel going into the engine no problem (aside from the fuel pressure seeming low at the engine?), but I'll be danged if the engine runs.

I'm very frustrated at this point...I reallllllly don;t want to take this whole thing apart again, but I'm afraid the timing is the culprit. Does this sound reasonable? Any other suggestions as to where to look?

Sorry, just saw your reply...yes, the glow plugs are working.

Also, I've just confirmed that the pump is indeed timed correctly and lined up as it should be internally.

Is it firing at all; are you getting any smoke from the exhaust when cranking it over? Put a clear hose on the top of the pump to the return line. You will be able to see if you have, or are getting air into your fuel system through the line.

Re: Need help troubleshooting 6.2 no start

These engines take quite a bit to get the air out of the system.I swapped the pump on my 86 in Dec & it took a while to get air out.I have a primer pump at the filter,so this helped.Did you crack the lines at all injectors? If your trying to bleed it by cranking it over, pull your glows..it's way easier on the starter.Don't crank it too long or you will burn out the starter too!I've heard an electric fuel pump helps a whole bunch too, whatever you do,DO NOT USE ETHER!!!! There is a good 6.2 section on the diesel place forum, lots of good info over there.

Re: Need help troubleshooting 6.2 no start

Are you getting good fuel pressure to the injector pump? Do you get a good bit of fuel out the bleeder on the front of the engine? (that will answer my first question) Is the supply pump the original mechanical mounted in similar location of small block? If the pump is good and you still aren't getting much fuel or intermittent air/no fuel you are losing your prime. I'd suspect the lines, tank,or unit in the tank. If you see no fuel leaking I'd narrow it down to possibly pinholes on top of tank of pick-up sock is clogged. What was the reason you replaced the injector pump? When you bled the injectors did it show good pressure there...at all 8?
