what excites the alternator
I looked in the electrical section and could not find what I was looking for and I posted there but I do not think that section get many looks. But here is my problem. Truck not running with a new battery and my voltmeter hooked to the battery it reads about 14 volts. Then I start the truck and jumps to 18 volts. I have put on a internal regulated alternator on my 67 and I have the plug from the external jumped like this. Brown wire jumped to the white wire then going to number 1 on the alternator and the red wire at the plug jumpered to the blue wire going to number 2 terminal on the alternator. So what tells the alternator to charge or not to charge. Thanks for any help.

Re: what excites the alternator
You only posted it a couple hours ago...give it some time. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people that post in that forum. Double posting is not allowed so I am locking this thread.
