Matco MG140 Damaged Spring Retainer Options?

Newly aquired, barely used Matco MG140 welder has a damaged spring retainer and I cant seem to locate a replacement online. Wondering if I can safely use it without the spring. Im hesitant to try and bend it back on there for fear of damaging the brass. Please advise. TIA.

Without the spring, you may not have a way to hold the cup on. If it were mine, I'd try to "thread" the spring back down, and see if you can get some more life out of it.

I may also "nip" the spring shorter, just to get rid of the tail if it doesn't thread back.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: Matco MG140 Damaged Spring Retainer Options?

I personally haven't dealt with that style. Most of what I've used over the years is a "Tweco" style (I think). Parts are readily available most anywhere.

Have you tried taking the whole gun assembly to the local welding supply? They may have something in stock to work. I highly doubt that Matco produced the machine in house, you may be able to find out who actually manufactured it and get parts that way.

Maybe someone else will chime in that has actually dealt with that machine.
