Easiest place to start is the factory manuals. Then refine from there.

Re: help! correct carb for a 1971 c10 auto 402

Let me first admit that I am a complete novice with these trucks. I recently bought a 1971 big block truck that was built in Atlanta. Just judging from the dates I have pulled, I believe the truck is very original. It even still had a set of dry rotted bias ply tires on the rear with a good bit of tread remaining. My transmission, engine, rear-end, and intake are all dated early May of 1971. I am giving all this background to say my info is strictly based on what is on my truck which I think is original to the truck. My carb is a 7041209 (pictured above). If I am interpreting the date code correctly, it was built on April 13, 1971 (103rd day of 1971). I assume this would be a correct date for my truck since it is about a month before my engine assembly date.

I pulled another page ( the next page, page 452) out of the 71 C10 manual that is linked in SSTim's signature. That info specifies a 7041209 for both automatic and manual transmission trucks.

Tim,

I don't know why mine posted as a link. Would you mind posting an image of the next page from the manual (page 452)?

Thank you

Yes, my truck is an original 1971 402 with the automatic transmission. From what I have read, the even number for auto / odd number for manual transmission is not a hard and fast rule. If you can pull up the adobe link in my other post, it clearly show automatic/manual listed by the 7041209 carb in the assembly manual.

Hope this helps,
Mike
