Re: Factory underbed fuel tank?
It's aftermarket or dealer installed. It's not factory.

Re: Factory underbed fuel tank?
My 69 has a tank that looks very similar. It was installed at a RV shop shortly after the original owner purchased the truck.

Re: Factory underbed fuel tank?
Going by the filler neck,it appears to be a '72-only auxiliary tank. Off the top of my head,I believe they are 8 gallon(?),maybe more like 10

Re: Factory underbed fuel tank?
The picture is just close-up skewed.
That appears to be the factory RPO NL2 aux. tank, 19 gallon capacity. Optional on 72 CK20 and C30 fleetside pickups The spacers appear to be the metal bed version. It is missing all the undercab plumbing, selector valve, wiring and gauge selector switch. At least from the pictures provided. Adding pictures so this thread has some value after the CL ad goes away.

Re: Factory underbed fuel tank?
My 1972 GMC has the holes in the bed and on the upper front fleetside on both side of the truck from Aux tanks. The holes for the selector switch are still in the floor right below the drivers side of the seat. One of the PO's removed them.
Look at the front of the bedside just behind the stock filler neck in this pic. You'll see the hole where the aux filler neck should come through. There is an identical one on the other side. Gary

Re: Factory underbed fuel tank?
Gary, Your truck probably had a pair of in-bed tanks. Most of the aftermarket saddle tanks used side doors (including the GM accessory saddle tanks) or wheel well fillers. The really high through bed fillers are usually only seen with in-bed tanks. But the GM NL2 and earlier N18 aux tanks did use a similar left side only with a vent pipe style filler.

Re: Factory underbed fuel tank?
That's the same tank my '72 Camper Special had factory installed. Wish I was closer, mine was full of dirt, rust, was rusted through.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. I didn't think the factory installed them.
I guess I learned something new. |

Re: Factory underbed fuel tank?
There was a '72 Sierra Grande in my area with the factory aux. tank. The high mounted filler is a giveaway, there is a metal shroud over the filler pipe in the bed as 67swb72klb states.

Mine had the factory option tank and it also has the filler in the same location, there's a sheet metal cover in the bed that hides the tube going through the bed and up to the filler hole.
