Gas tank out, sub box in?

Howdy y'all! Just curious, has anybody yanked and relocated the fuel tank in their 67-72 and custom-built a sub box to go in its' place? Really want to do this, just wanted to see some pictures if anyone has done it before.

I was thinking something like either three twelves, two fifteen rounds, or two fifteen squares (Kicker Solobarics) across the bottom, with four 5x7s up top and the amp sitting in a cutout on the box (a divit down in the box just deep enough to make the top of the amp even with the face of the box). I really want some bump in my cab, and the door speakers aren't cutting it ;D

Also, where should I run the wiring? I want to keep a rubber floor in it, should it run under the mat along the transmission hump?

There is not near enough room for 15's back there, nor do you need them. You don't even need three 12's, two 12's would have much cleaner sound and hit hard enough to rattle your brain in a cab that small.

I have one 10" kicker L7, I have my amp turned way down it hits harder then any 10 I've ever heard. The box is ported on the passenger side and I have a 500 watt amp.

I took my tank out cut it out and put three Memphis 10's in it it hit pretty hard

Oh, and what about the head unit? I have a head that's similar to stock (actually, I have a video of it messing up on youtube. Here:

). I want to upgrade it, but I don't want to cut the dash up, and I can't give up any space in the glove box. Any thoughts?

That's similar to what I want to build, except for me one ten isn't going to cut it. :/ I'm in need of bone-rattling, earth-shaking bass lol. I have a 500 watt Bazooka amp, but I'll probably need a bigger one for three twelves, correct?

Hmmm. I hadn't thought about reusing the fuel tank as a box. Nifty idea! What did you do with the filler neck?

I have 2-10" shallow subs in the box behind the seat. They sound fine. The bottom picture is with the old speakers installed. You can check it out in the link.

as for the stereo, i put a deck in the regular spot. only had to a little shaving/cutting, looks good still. don't have a pic of that at the time

I like the wood paneling. Nice touch. Do you think a set of twelves could fit across the bottom of the box?

That's pretty slick. I doubt I would want it to stick out that far in my truck, though. Leg room is already pretty limited.

I built the custom box behind the seats. The biggest thing is having the depth to fit the subs. I am running to 12in Kenwood shallows. There is a big difference in sound from the shallows in my truck to the full kenwoods 12in in my car, but having the sub 6in from your back bone helps with the feel. Also having the subs so close you need a quality sound and seal. My system goes as follows
1-kenwood head unit, 2- spr60's under the dash, 2- spr60c's behind the seat,1-MRX-F65 4-channel amp, 2-Kenwood 12in shallows,1-hyfonics amp. I want to upgrade to a better sub amp and better speakers under the dash, maybe type-x's.

Have you thought about going to a center console and bucket seats?
It sounds like you want a lot of sound and I don't know if you can get it to fit without moving the seats forward.
I ran my wiring along the frame and then in to the cab threw the hole that the gas line ran threw.

I thought I would take a better picture of my boxes since I had my seats out. Also, I used my boxes to hide the seat belt re-tractors that are mounted to the floor and the area behind the speakers is open leaving space for the re-tractor and belt to pass.

Here's what we built. Sorry I don't have better pics. 12" shallow sub with 6x9's in the corners and some high tech (2) up front in the original spot in the dash. 1200 watt system. Sound is ok...makes me smile anyway.
