Custom Trans Cross-member?
Can't help but notice all the different Transmissions we're all running in our trucks. OEM 4 speeds, automatics, later model Turbo 350s, 400s. 700R4s, Tremecs. The OEM transmission cross member being a crude piece of hat section steel. that hangs down to where most dual exhaust jobs have the head pipes routed under and hanging below it. There are a lot of great tubular steel and box channeled cross members available $150.00 - $250.00 for all the typical stuff like Camaros, Novas, etc.
Has anybody seen a reasonable priced, double hump cross-member for our 67-72 trucks that allows tucked up into the frame rails, dual exhaust (2-1/2" - 3")and works with Turbo 350-400 or 700R4s mounts? Something like this. Thanks

Re: Custom Trans Cross-member?
i had a 64 chevy pick up. it had the factory 3 speed standard column shift. The trans was supported bt the mounts on the bell housing. I converted it to 4 speed auto. I took a double hump crossmeber from a chevelle. it was actually to wide, so I cut it down, heated up the ends and squeezed the ends closed. set it in the frame, with the tranny and mount set up. drilled bolt holes, and bolted it up. worked just great. The truck wasn't lowered, so the exasut wasn't a clearance issue.

Re: Custom Trans Cross-member?
Here is a link to one I bought. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...77&postcount=1
Several vendors carry this style, CPP has another version but it only attaches to the bottom of the frame c-channel. I plan on running my exhaust above this and through the trailing arm cross member, I have a CPP trailing arm cross member though. |

Why shop for this stuff when you can make what you need? If you can't weld go down to the local community college, high school extension school or your buddies house and learn. It isn't hard, but it does take time. |
