1969 GMC C1500 questions

I just picked up a 1969 GMC C1500 2wheel drive long bed. Runs great but the transmission after 4 days of use has gone out completely it has the turbo 400 in it I am in the Phoenix area were are the best places for parts for these bad boys. Also I was looking at the dash sticker and saw it was factory sierra grande and factory custom sport truck with bucket seats were can I find bucket seats since they are no longer present

I think you have at least one good sized salvage yard west of you a ways. I can't remember exactly where but I remember seeing an ad for it at one time. Any decent salvage yard would have what you need...

Edit: Here is one.

I think this is the one I was thinking of.

Oh, and to the board.

1500? whatever trans shop that you go to be sure that they truly know how to work on old stuff. considered upgrading to a 700R4? do a search here for threads on what bucket seats fit OK, or need stock for a full restoration? post some pics of your truck.

Hey Rentacop...

to the forums and from Ohio.

There are various directions that you can go. I would go to a quality transmission shop and get an estimate to what is wrong and what needs rebuilt.

You can always switch out tranny's but you need to decide if you want to keep it original.

If you view the "For Sale" area Buckets do come up but they are not cheap. Then again you might find a set on Craigslist or a salvage yard.

Best of luck and we do like pictures.

Re: 1969 GMC C1500 questions

That is a mighty fine looking truck you have there sir. I welcome you to the site I will personally like to welcome you to drop by the paint and body section if you ever decide to go that direction with your project. I hang out there quite a bit and answer up a lot in therefor those that have a little less shop time in the [body ]shop than I do. Jim

I'd bet the cost of a fluid and filter change if I were you, as I've seen several TH400's do just as u described; and the f&f-change cured them.
