Has anyone settled on a good general all around primer for under the hood and frame ??

Napa has the ACME line. I have some experience with their paint line long time ago and the last time I saw it used seemed to work pretty darn good.
I'm down to doing the inner fenders under hood and frame.

I think their price is reasonable but that doesn't make it good, but if someone something that is resonable for under hood and frame I'd sure like to hear about it.

Call me cheap but I have had good luck with rustoleum rusty metal primer under rustoleum semi gloss (or satin) black paint on my frame. Mine is a driver though. If you are going for show truck quality you will probably want something else. Not sure what it would be though, sorry. Good luck!

OK jb70c10-your cheap! You asked for it. and welcome to you is in order I see just kidding about the cheap comment but you did ask for it. Now Dan back to your truck and your issue This may have gotten tons more traffic in the paint and body section but I always look here as well so your covered. The answer I am gonna give is Black epoxy primer. I am not sure about Acme I would almost say with 100% certainty that they to have it I use Omni and that is the cheaper line from PPG, and they carry almost everything a man would ever need. I have sprayed some parts with the epoxy that don't get any sun like frame and core support and they stayed looking good for a long while and still do. Lots of others have used it under hood of their projects as well that turned out great. Jim

ooh by the way I use epoxy primer all the time in my body shop as well as high build. So it[body work and body supplies and stuff] is not just a weekend project thing for me it is my every day. Jim

The best product I have personally used for this application is one called "mothane" . It is very reasonable , and very tough

Epoxy primer is the way to go. I always use this on my trucks

Looks like Epoxy primer it's going to be.

Body and paint takes A LOT of Patience and trial and error. I'm good at the error part. LOL I just have to remember the patience part and prep,prep, prep.

This is going to be a daily driver, once I get done, I look to take it to some local meets like Old Town over here in Kissimmee. It will be far from a show truck but I want it to look and run good.

I managed to find a 71 step last year that needed body work in just a few areas. However since I'm in there I want to get the frame and engine bay lookin good. Naturally there are a hundred other things yo have to do to a 43 year old vehicle.

Thanks for the replies, paint and body is one area you can make a HELLUVA mess.

Make sure you have a quality respirator system. It is not good to be breathing epoxy.
