1965 Rear End Questions
My 1965 C10 Short Wheel Base truck has the original rear end. I am planning down the road to put a stronger LT1350 in the truck once its done.
My questions are this; I guess I will need to change the rear end to a posi rear end. Should I change the whole rear end or just the innards within my stock rear end? Do I just need to put in a better gear and posi or is that something I would need a whole new rear end to get? |

Re: 1965 Rear End Questions
You can get a posi unit for it and call it good. Or as long as you have the rear end torn down you might as well have it totally rebuilt. You might have to get a new ring and pinion set anyway so why not do it all.

Re: 1965 Rear End Questions
The factory diff is a 12 bolt and very capable of the power you'll put into it. If your going to put a posi into the diff, then spend the extra cash to replace bearing and seals which will save you a heartache later on. Good luck.

There is also this. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwt-1910-lr/overview/ Anyone know anything about them besides they make noise when you turn. Just want to know if they are reliable or not.

Re: 1965 Rear End Questions
I installed a Detroit TruTrac from Eaton and have zero complaints. Damn thing seems bomb proof so far and no clutch discs or springs to wear out.
You can check them out here. http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsS...trac/index.htm Easy to install yourself. |

Re: 1965 Rear End Questions
Yeah I was concerned about doing it myself too but after talking with some differential shops I wasn't worried. You just need to make sure the shims and caps go back where they came from and don't mess with the pinion gear.

Re: 1965 Rear End Questions
those lockers fit inside the stock carrier. take out your spider and axle gears and install the locker unit. You don't have to remove the carrier. I like the Spartan locker for ease of install. (u-tube has videos of install) some on e-bay for $260 with free shipping. I have never used one , but thinking about it.
