Under the seat subs

Ive got a 71 and I dont wanna take the gas tank out. I think its cool and I like the smell of gas lol. I've seen that pioneer and JL make a very shallow sub. Has anyone made there own under the seat sub box?

I used 1 alpine swr-t10 and used a fosgate power 1000 to run it. Sounds good but there was barely enough room for it. Box ended up having to go up into the seat bottom close to the springs and still ended up being on the low side of air space but with some poly fill sounds pretty good. Theres not much room down there but its doable.

It depends on what you looking for. Do you want to annoy the people next you or do you just want good sounding bass notes?

I installed a powered Sound Ordnance unit in my Suburban and I love it. Of course I am not into window rattling bass either. But it sounds much better than I expected and I well pleased with my choice.

I plan to once it gets warmer. There's enough space under there for one sub with plenty of air, maybe two but I kind of doubt they will get enough space. Pop on over to home depot, but a sheet of 3/4" mdf, measure twice, cut once haha. I'm looking at the RF P3SD4-10. Requires 0.4-1.0 cubic feet of space. Removing the seat adjuster cable and hardware would give more space, but I think I can make it work and keep the cable.

Built one that held two 12" powerbasses. Ended having to put the seat on 1" risers. It worked but only problem is i faced the subs up causing the seat to muffle the subs.

Mine are behind the seat. They fit 2 12" Full size Pioneer Subs. The seat does also slide all the way back and require no modification to the seats.

I vote for the JL Audio CP106LG-W3v3 or it's counterpart JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 if you're looking for something a little larger. These fit great under my 71s bench seat. I only went with one 6" under the passenger side but I tell you what. That thing produces some of the cleanest low end sound I've ever heard. Not a single person who gets in my truck can believe that that much bass is coming from that little 6" sub. I think if you went with 2 of the 8" ones (one under each side and powered it properly along with some serious highs to cut through the bass) you won't be disappointed. Like someone else said it's all in what you want. I am 100% satisfied with that 6" sub. It won't knock the rearview mirror off but it sure shakes the hell out of it and my passengers only notice a slight vibration underneath them. I listen to a wide range of music so I have to really turn down the low end on my equalizer for something like country but if a hip hop song comes on and that equalizer is up you can feel it in your throat. Nice set ups but I am keeping the bench seat and my tank. Ive heard L5s that I couldnt even believe the amount of bass they put it out. I'm impressed with their SPL. Ive never really been impressed with MTX, not bad but I think they lack in overall areas. My vote will most likely go with JL audio as I have had their 10" 3v3 and liked the quality of sound and had almost too much bass when I wanted it.

With an old 71 I'm going to guess that any sub that is designed for SPL is going to amplify the "tin can" rattles of these trucks. But thats what dynamat is for I suppose.

JL's TW5v2 has my interest right now as its only 2.5" deep but worried about the 13.5" diameter.

Well the truck interior is sort of in shambles right now but here are a few pics I took the other day. In the midde of the bench seat is my amp and sitting on top of it is my equalizer which usually is attached to that little bracket you see mounted in front of the amp. I just have it moved because I was working under the dash and didn't want to accidently lay on it. You can see the JL sub in its little self enclsoed box. This is the 6" version but they make an 8" as well. That 6" is plenty for my needs though and like I said hits a lot harder than you'd think. It fits under the seat well and where you see it in the pic is where it actually stays. Also, the cab is lined with hushmat underneath the carpet which I think helps with the 'tin can' sound some guys talk about. I don't get any rattle or weird acoustics as if I was in a storage container. Sounds clean.

I kept the tank in mine and have no problems. 2 6.5" speakers under the seat right now and there's definitely room for at least one shallow sub. I suppose you could also do two forward firing 6" subs, but I'd rather have the shallow. Hell I even have the seat adjust cable still in there and working.

i got the Kicker Hideaway sub and very impressed with it! not crazy stupid bass but a nice punch sound from it. I got the 8 inch. fits perfectly under the pass side seat (or drivers) and you still have room to play.

haha first is the madness of the wires and second is after (as you cldn't tell). everything sounds really good...also got an Alpine comp setup in the doors and some 3.5's kickers in the dash...

I used a Boss 8" 800w slim line sub. I'm happy with it.
