Re: bent tailgate
I never checked mine and am not going to! I see the gap. I would turn it over, make sure the top and bottom rails are straight. Damage is from people or heavy objects stomping on it and it looks like the area outside of the letter recess is dented a little too. Make a 3/4" wood template that fits inside of the letter recess so you can apply uniform force without creasing anything. Then gradully apply weight until the panel starts to move. It might even pop back into place. With it popped or where you want it to be, use a body hammer and dolly to work the edges to relieve the tension in the metal, might take a bunch of tries to figure out where they all are as you remove the weight from the plywood. You might also have to work from the out side towards the center, reducing the size of the template as you go. I have done the same on large body panels that got dented, you just have to work out the residual tension in the metal.

Re: bent tailgate
I'd say the same as OrrieG.
Mine looked almost identical to yours, a hammer and dolly + a great deal of paitence is the way to do it. Once I had mine fairly flat and dent free I had to dig out the torch and do a several shrinks in it due to the metal streching out from the dolly work. |
