Engine Missing at cruising speed?
'70 C20 350/350TH.
Starts okay. Idles great. Misses while cruising. Accelerates great. I know... Check Cap, Fuel Filter, Vacuum, etc. But it's -8 degrees out there! Ha! Too darn cold to tinker! |

Spark plug wires. I feel your pain my brother, my wetsand bucket was frozen when I got to the shop this morning. it was 20.2 degrees INSIDE my shop! the turbine heater while loud enough to make my ears ring all night, will warm the shop enough to make it somewhat liveable. Jim

Oh one other thing to check but I haven't seen it until the TBI type motors the rotor button get loose and the center walks around a bit causing a miss at hiway speed

Re: Engine Missing at cruising speed?
i recall having a small block years back that did this ... mine ended up being excess slack in the timing chain...... if urz has lots of miles on it.... might be a possibility.

Oh yeah...I'm thinking timing chain, worn valves, etc.
You know, the worst possible things it could be. Not to matter now, it's too cold to worry about it! = ) |

Re: Engine Missing at cruising speed?
Well I had the same problem and I "think" I found it (should know by the weekend). The douche that worked on this thing before I bought it apparently decided to bend the fuel line out of the pump with a CHANNEL LOCKS! That thing is so kinked I don't know how ANY fuel was flowing through it! I'm thinking at 3000 RPM on the highway, it was just running out of fuel. Again, who knows... maybe it's catastrophic engine failure. But really? How often does a small just up and grenade on you unless you've done something you shouldn't...

Re: Engine Missing at cruising speed?
Quick test!
Pull the vac hose off the vac pot on the distributor and plug it. If the miss goes away you'll know it's timing related. |

Hey, geezer#99!
I went to guitar making school in Qualicum Bay! Just up the road from you! I'll try your test and a bunch of other stuff, but not till it warms up. This weekend has a good forecast. My truck is just for hauling stuff and I don't "need" it much at all over the winter. |
