HELP Valve Covers

So I have some mold-looking stuff on my aluminum valve covers and I cant seem to get it off at all. They shine up nicely but the stuff is still there. Any ideas? It looks a lot like mold.

Re: HELP Valve Covers

Here you go. Help please. :\ Goal is to get these cleaned up before I put them on and start up the truck.

BTW, this is after substantial cleaning.

this stuff is amazing, they make one for cleaning raw aluminum and another for cleaning polished aluminum. I use it on my semi tanks and wheels it works great.

I dont know who that seller is but I googled "dakota shine aluminum bright"

Re: HELP Valve Covers

If you had a buffing wheel, you could try to wet sand it with 600 grit, then buff it out.

Re: HELP Valve Covers

That is oxidation. If you want a good shine, here's what you do.
1. Get a bucket of water. Add a couple teaspoons of dish soap.
2. Use a semi-rigid block and wet sand w/ 600 grit.
3. Repeat w/ 800 grit. ( use fresh water)
4. Repeat w/ 1200 grit
5. Repeat w/ 1500, then 2000, then 2500
6. Final wet sand w/ 3000 grit
7. Get a Mothers "Powerball" and some aluminum polish.
8. Buff 'em up.

As mentioned above, if you have a benchtop buffer its as simple as a cutting compound, then a buffing compound finished off with a high polish jewelers rouge...easy as falling off a log!
