What is on the side of this truck?

Is the tab hanging out between the cab and bed and the silver things on the bed side in the rear hold downs for a slide-in camper or something?

How are they attached? I assume the front might bolt in where the front bed panel and bed side bolt together. Looks like the rear one might go all the way through the bed?

Yep. Little different than my 77. They had holes at the end of the bed crossmembers. And I have a 68-72 bed that has an almost identical set of brackets on the front. And yes they attach to the bedside to headboard bolts.
