Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
Its a short bed and has a great paint job on it. The 350 was rebuilt and so was tranny. They have about 1,000 miles on them.
The rear end is stock but has 4.10s swapped into it. I dont know how the interior looks but from the rest of the truck it cant be too bad. He's wanting $9,500 Id obviously lower the rear and put different wheels and tires on it. But how do I know its worth 9500 cause I've seen some trucks with original paint jobs go for 5-6000 but then I see some that sort of look like this one that have a good set of wheels and tires. and they are wanting $15k So I'm alil confused on what makes these trucks worth so much more than others. What would you all offer for a truck like this? |

Well, if you're gonna pay 9500 for it, or at least make an offer for it, you had better check all the usual stuff- rot, frame, etc. we would need more pictures than what you have posted to give you a decent opinion. It better be a very nice truck for that much money.

He said it wasn't cheap so Im guessing thats where his 9500 price is coming into play. Its not my first choice on color but I've been looking for a 67-72 for several months and it's been a hell of a time finding a short bed that isnt already completely fixed up from head to toe and them wanting over $12k for it. Just judging from that one pic and knowing the motor and tranny was rebuilt and if the interior was say a 7/10 what would the truck be worth. Even with that paint job? I was thinking $7,500 but still not sure if thats too much |

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
I'm no expert but something looks kinda off .. maybe a long bed that has been cut down?
Maybe its just me. With these trucks its all about the look. This same truck dropped and a set of 20" wheels it would bring 12-14k all day. Nothing wrong with rallys (I have them on my truck right now) but put 1800-2000 in a set of wheels and it will increase the resale that much then some. Getting sitting right and you got it. Id look it over real good,.. check the frame rails for welds / fish plate. Just looking at the pics its a 7500 truck in SE TN.

Is checking the frame for welds/fish plate mean that it was a long bed shortened?

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
I hate buying anything that was just painted, he hasn't even reinstalled the markers yet.
Suspension looks normal to me, seen it on lots of trucks. Some shortbeds do look a little off (sucked in towards the front) with certain wheel/tire combos, at certain picture angles. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to look at the glovebox (see if SPID with wheelbase is listed) and check the frame.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
here's my way of buying stuff......I always buy stuff and rebuild it cause I can never find what I want, now if the truck is exactly what you are looking for and you need to look no further than the price isn't to bad as long as it is in great shape ( paint, body, frame, brakes, motor, trans, ect ect ) if its not what you want then the price is way to high. I would buy one and make it your own, or fork out the money and wait to find one that you would have to put little money into it. The Q? is do you love this truck enough to even spend 7500.00 for it. If blue is not your first pick can you live with it ...cause it would suck to buy it and 6 months later decide you hate the color.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
It took me over 8 months to find my truck that I was happy to pay the price and get what I want. Mind you we don't have nearly the amount of choice you guys have over there. Sounds to me that your gut is telling you to walk away and find something else, but you're not sure whether to listen to it. my advice...listen to your gut. One thing I learnt is that when it comes to selling sh*t, people will tell you anything. Get heaps more photo's and pay an expert to go over it with a fine tooth comb and give a written report, if you are unable to check it yourself. Good luck.

Don't get mezmerized by the shiny new paint. $9500 seems like a dream price for the seller. An all original truck in that shape maybe, but looks like this guy is basing his price on the Barrett's Auction show. Just my .02

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
That's an Ebay/Barrett-Jackson dream price if you ask me . I just sold my latest build. Everything on it was new. Engine, trans, exhaust, chrome, grille, tires, brakes, PS, PB. Paint was an older re-spray but was not bad and interior was nice. There was almost "0" rust in the truck with all original metal. I advertised it at $6500 because that's what it was actually worth and could not get it. It may have brought it if I put it on Ebay but it would not have gone over that.
The above is only an opinion and represents 25 years experience of buying , building and selling 67-72's of one man in one area.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
I drove down to GA to Goodmark Industries to pick it all up. Fenders are OK. I will never buy another set of repro doors. Ever. GM doors are going back on the truck for it's 2nd build. Interior came from my Grandpa's '72, board members, and junk yards.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
Beware of nice flashy paint! You never know what quality bodywork has been performed until a year or two down the road when crap starts bubbling back out at you. Thats the point when you realize, "Holy crap I just spent $10k only to spend another $10k to fix it". Unless you know and trust the said persons work. Its nice to find something with all original paint that way you know its problems and everything is out in the open...my newb .02 cents..

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
just to clarify on my pic above, not trying to step on toes .. I was just trying to say the truck has potential to be a sweet ride. I know everyone's not into billets and bags.. just saying if it had a little drop on it and a set of wheels the appeal would put it into a different price bracket IMO. I like rallys as much as the next guy as I stated,.. but hat truck is begging to be dropped.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
This is one forum where I wouldn't worry about that kind of stuff. Everybody here likes what they like and lets everyone else do the same. That's kind of rare on forums. I don't like that but if you do, that's great. I really like the attitude here. I was always a stock kind of guy but lately I see the advantages of dropping it. I've seen 2/4 drops I like along with 5 1/2-7" I like.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
Not worried per say .. just saying my intentions where to show what it could look like if the new owner liked that sort of thing. IF it were mine, it would be dropped by sundown. He did ask for opinions about what makes the trucks worth more money with wheels on them.
If it had 'that look' (4/6, 18's or 20's) Id see it as a 12-14k truck just from the picture and description. Even a basic paint job nowadays is 2-3k. It tough to buy good materials for less than $1k. Id say its worth a look, but not sure Id give $9500 for it as it sits.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
I agree. And new wheels and tires do add to what people will pay even though a trip to the tire shop and they could do it for less. But the overall look has a lot to do with asking price.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
I'd didn't see where anyone mentioned this but since its still 6 lug it might still have front drum brakes to check that out. Plus ask for pics before the paint to see if you can tell if it was very bad before and of course crawl all over the bottom side looking for patches and rust repair. My dad sold his 70 a few years ago with a frame off resto and 47,000 original miles for 10k

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
To CC69Rat, I've seen where u do the photoshop on other trucks, how do u do it? I agree w/ u, if that trk looked like that, wow! I just bought '69, dark hunter green, w/ upper and lower trim, chrome rally wheels w/ small disc brake caps. I would love to see it bagged w/ these wheels or painted Delmo's. Can u show a photo of this? thanks

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
I use a free tool here - http://pixlr.com/editor
You have to kinda think in layers. The first thing I do is make sure both of my pictures (original and the one I am 'borrowing the wheels from') are the same resolution. 800x600 for example. IF the original is larger, and the wheel pic is smaller .. of course the wheels just wont fit the overall size of the truck and vise versa. Likewise, if the person asks for say 22's.. I just try to use my donor pic at say 900x700 and my original at 800x600 so the donor wheels have a larger look. Next, open the original image - twice. Once as the background, then again as a layer. Pick a logical spot (for this picture it was the edge of the garage door and the yellow block thingies on the right) then 'split' the picture. The top layer is now free, .. then erase from your chosen split line down all the way to the bottom. Your underlying layer shows through.. and you have your floor back. Use the move tool and drag the top layer down.. this is what makes the truck look lowered. For the wheels, .. I do the front wheel on one layer and the back wheel on another. Say the original picture is slightly on a different angle than the one I am editing .. or the truck is a long wheelbase .. etc. It gives you the ability to move each wheel and fit it perfectly in the wheel wells. .. then some fine airbrushing, .. cleaning up the edges and blending the tires to make them look like they are sitting on the floor correctly, .. hiding blend lines. Sometimes I have done as many as 10-12 layers on one edit. It's kinda fun, but I'm by no means a pro. I just mess around with it really. This one looks a little cartoonish .. lol .. but just trying to say this truck could be bad a$$ pretty easily. On this picture above if you look really close you can kinda see my blend right behind the tailgate on the grey wall. The lighting is a little different so I had to blend off that wall a little. Post up a pic of your green truck and I'll see what I can do with it. .. or PM if you have questions about pixlr. It is pretty cool actually, .. free, and will do almost everything Photoshop will do.

If it's previous life was in Ohio, it could be a rust bucket underneath. I'd say it's a couple K high to be a fair price.

Re: Whats a reasonable price to pay for this 69 C10
I think that if it is in good shape concerning rust issues, original SWB, and stuff like that and you make no other major changes it may be worth the asking price to you. However, if you like what CC69Rat did and plan on making other changes I personally would not give anything close to the asking price. At the end of the day you will have a ton of money in it especially if you have to pay someone else to do all the work. I think when you are willing to pay around 10 grand for one of these trucks and are patient you will have some “buy” options. I got in a hurry once and bought one that had alot of things I didn't like just because I had to have one. I loved driving it but soon realized I would have too much money in it to make it what I wanted and a year later I sold it and the waiting game continues.
