What wiring harness should I use?
Hey all,
I'm starting to work on my grandfather's '70 C20 again now that I'm back at school. While the engine is out and the interior is stripped, I thought now would be a good time to work on the wiring. When I parked the truck back in November I checked to see if any of the lights worked. Nothing worked. I'm thinking either there are tons of bad grounds (unlikely), or the mice had lots of fun tearing it up over the course of 20 years. Anyway, I was wondering what the rest of you have used for wiring harnesses? I've found replacement wiring kits from LMC but they're terribly expensive. This isn't going to be a show truck (it's full of dents), I'm just wanting a reliable daily driver. I was wondering if there were other, cheaper alternatives. Thanks!

Re: What wiring harness should I use?
I just rewired my truck and used all American Autowire harnesses. They were excellent to work with and fit great. I bought them from Classic Parts (Chevy Duty), the under dash harness is the most expensive at $350 if I recall correctly.
If you're good with electrics and have the time you can always get a universal harness from a number of vendors. *The only thing I use LMC for is their exploded diagrams in the catalogs.

Ok. Cool.
I got a catalog from them a while back but I hadn't looked for wiring harnesses. I'll have to check that out and see how they work. Thanks!

Re: What wiring harness should I use?
Has anyone here used a universal harness for a street rod rather than a 67-72 specific one? I've got a painless harness for the truck I'm working on now and was thinking about using a universal to make a more clean installation.

Re: What wiring harness should I use?
I'm also interested in using a universal harness.

Re: What wiring harness should I use?
I know a couple guys that build super custom cars and trucks and they told me to stay away from painless. Out of all the harnesses they have used that was the hardest one to get through. They were universal harnesses. But that's just them. Although I took their advice.

Re: What wiring harness should I use?
I used Kwik-wire for my 67 and I was great. Good quality and the instructions we good also. I liked the kill switch on top of the fuse panel.
