Advice on aftermarket steering column

Hey all,

Looking for advice on an aftermarket steering column for my 66 C20. Anyone have a preferred brand that fits/works well? My original column was pretty worn, and the gear lockout plate was pretty much flat. Want to go with a Tilt if possible. Doesn't need to be chrome, just reg. steel or aluminum will do. Will run my new harness into it.

Your best bet is to us either Ididit or Flaming River. Those two are American made and have a very good rating. Many of the lower price ones have serious flaws and in cases, down right dangerous. There are a few threads on this, with the link to a very good document that did a bunch of testing.

Awesome, thanks for the info. What are people using in terms of swaps from junk yards from later-model vehicles? If I swap front suspension from a 86 C10, would it be easy to take the column and box with it?

I used one from a 91 suburban (same at 73-87 pickup) also used the engine, trans, wiring harness, fuse panel (the electrical system was plug and play this way including plugging into the wheel) only had to rewire the instrument cluster.......Kieth
