67 small window cab repair or replace?

Need some help/opinions on whether or not my 67 small window cab can be repaired or if I should be trying to locate a replacement. Everything I've read on this forum (which is awesome and extremely helpful) seems to indicate that the areas between the roof and windshield are some of the toughest to repair. Will need to repair/replace the outer roof skin, inner skin above the windshield, spots along the drip rails and several areas of the windshield lip. The worst of which is the upper corner on the drivers side which is completely gone.

I just knew you were going to be close to the gulf. I would just replace the whole roof or go further inland and find another cab.

Is there a way to replace the entire roof from a 68-72 donor and keep the small back window?

Yes, it's time consuming. Take a couple days but it's not hard to removed the inner roof panel and outer roof panel. Take the outer roof off first, then you can drill out the spot weld off the lip that connects the inner roof sheet metal to the sheetmetal that continues down around the window.

If you check out my build I removed both. Haven't replaced them yet, I'm going to sandblast the cab first and epoxy prime everything before I weld the roof panels back in.

What's your kick panel area like? Usually when water breaches the sealer on the drip edge... It tracks down inside the pillar, kick panel, floor, outer dash,etc. Might be a larger issue than just that top corner. If you repair it, measure to ensure proper clearance for windshield/gasket. Those corners are tight as it is. I just cracked a new windshield trying to install it.

Need to do some more grinding on the bottom half of the cab to asses its condition. This cab has had some work done. I use the term work loosely because it was really all just covered up. At least when it came to the roof. Hoping that the floors at least had new patch panels welded in. Front door pillars are gone and needs new toe panel. Rockers and cab corners feel solid but cab floor was coated in some type of undercoating. Need to investigate and see what is underneath I suppose.

Is the windshield lip area going to be feasible to repair?

It'll be a tough fix. Bad area to work in. Looks like your repairs may extend down the pillar too. It's only metal. Can be repaired. Have to weigh the time investment you're willing to put forth versus a replacement cab I guess.

Been there, dealt with that. Found me a donor, and did the whole section. Plus pretty much the whole front drip rail section. Was a bit of a pain, but better than trying to find a cab.

From what I can tell they tried to fill in all the rusted out areas with filler and then go over the top with a combination of filler and/or fiberglass patchwork. Then bondo over the top and prime.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. Gives me some hope. We've never fabricated before, or really welded for that matter. But we are going to give it a helluva try unless a better cab can be found for a reasonable price. May have bitten off a little more than we wanted to chew on this one, but there's no putting it back like it was at this point.

For reference, a reasonable price for a solid 67 cab would be about $800-$900

Fortunately, mother nature blesses us with 6-8 month worth of bad weather, so i was able to just slowly work my way through during that time. I also did rockers, parts of the floor, and drip rails both sides. If you plan to go to the extent i did, hang the doors, before you finish welding. I failed to do that, and now my passenger door rubs on the bottom. Nothing that can't be fixed, but could have been avoided, even though i measured twice. My main goal has always been to have a running truck during the good months, so i tackled what i could during that time. I imagine swapping a cab is not all that tricky, so if you can find one that needs less work, it might be worth it. All depends on your time frame.

Looks like your in tx and for the short drive north I can get you a cab lined up for 300ish or a whole truck for 500-700 I don't like rust repair so I'd buy a better cab

Wow, that welding thread is very informative. You guys on this forum are beyond awesome!

Colorado is a pretty good haul from where I'm at in the Houston area, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I would definitely be interested in another cab if the right one can be had for the right price. Trying to weigh my options and see which way works out best. I'm worried about my cab turning into a money pit and dragging this build out much longer than it is already going to take. But also not opposed to putting some hard work in if my cab can be saved. Just don't want to put money into this one and then run into a wall somewhere else and regret not cutting my losses now and going a different direction.

I've decided that I am in the market for a small window cab now before I dive into repairing this one. Anyone got any leads?
