SPID on '68 GMC?

I have stopped to look at a '68 1/2-ton GMC. It's a LWB, 6-cyl/3 on the tree. It's lemon yellow with white top, radio and nothing else. It's got 69K showing on the clock. It has a Missouri inspection decal on the windshield. The rockers need replaced. The rear step bumper is trash. But, it seems to be as solid as you'd expect a farm truck to be that seems to have been in a barn or shed. The bed has to go; the tailgate seems okay at glance. The fawn-colored interior is decent but the seat cover isn't original. Glass is good. Grille is good. Seller seems to be flexible on his $1K asking price. If it was a SWB, it would have "patina", but I told him that as a LWB truck...it needs paint.

Oh, I didn't see an SPID on the glove box door. Was that just a Chevy thing? You'd think I'd know the answer, but I don't.

Thoughts? Yeah, I know you want pix. Tomorrow, okay?

Re: SPID on '68 GMC?

For some reason lots of 67's and 68's were shipped to the dealers with the SPID loose. Seems more prevalent in the GMC's.

Re: SPID on '68 GMC?

I have a 68 GMC "Stripper" no nothing , got it from original owner, no spid , never installed, did find build sheet under the seat showing it from Fremount CA. If I can't find a buyer for it it's going to rebody my 71 K -10 this summer !

Re: SPID on '68 GMC?

I'm going to try and make a deal for it tomorrow. What I'm thinking is the cab and front clip on my '69 chassis. I'd go ahead and throw the GMC tailgate on my short bed, but still keep it titled as the '69 Chevy chassis that I have already titled. Since the chassis VIN and my title match....no brainer in Arkansas.

I have a '68 cab that is non-air, that needs corners and rockers.... but I've seen worse rockers. I'm just tired of not having my truck in an assembled state.

Since the seat in the GMC has been recovered, I'm gonna guess that there's no SPID buried in the springs.....
