Radiator ?

I've been looking at the 3 Rows/cores Performance aluminum radiators for my 66 I6 250 and the sellers claim they are a Direct Bolt-On OEM Fitment or Replacement for I6 and V8. Has anybody installed one and did you have to do any modifications to get it to fit.

I also bought a Champion and I'm happy with it, my only comment is that the Champion radiator does not fit in the original radiator brackets and it doesn't come with brackets. I had a friend fabricate new lower brackets and he modified the top bracket to work.

I got a champion from a vendor here. It didn't fit perfectly, but it worked just fine after I ground down the stock mount just a bit.

I also have a champion and it fit other than I wittled down the lower mount bushings a bit

I too installed a champion - fit like a glove and only had to whittle down the upper rubber bushings...

I had cooling problems with the BeCool radiator because I have a big block and went to an electric fan. I am now of the thought that I should have gone to a radiator shop before and had one custom made which is what I ended up doing. Dumped the electric fan for a mechanical because, lets face it, I'm not racing, just driving, and I don't want to have to worry about cooling. All is well now.

I have been totally well served by this brass radiator from Advance Auto. Its for the V8, fits the V8 mounts and I've used it on my 283 V8 and now on my 250 I6. It is a 3 core. Installation on the I6 is detailed in one of my John Lee threads, believe its captured in FAQ. You can use the factory style I6 lower hose and I listed part numbers for both upper and lower radiator hoses in the install thread. You could make the air dams from scratch when converting from the small 6 rad to this larger v8 rad. Either make a new top clamp or junkyard for the v8 style.

Code P20 on an internet order should net you 20% off and free shipping. At a starting price, newly reduced to $196 (it was over $200 last year) another 20% and free delivery is makeing it almost worth buying another for a spare!

I have the same 3 core, got it from rock auto 3 years ago, about $175.00 20% off of 196.99 is not a bad deal...... works great with a mild 350...tbi and no shroud.....

Yep, drops the price to $157....plenty to buy some flat steel stock and make up lower/upper mounts and some sheet metal for the dams if yer goin from small 6 rad to this wider model

I just looked at your install and by the looks of it I already have the bigger radiator in it....so I shouldn't have to do any bracket modifications.

our tanks are made to the same dimensions as stock so that they can utilize the stock mounting brackets

Sparky, do you do stuff like in/outlet size changes and steam port installs for us with LS engines???

Yes, we do that stuff daily. Every LS conversion gets the ports in the correct size moved to the passenger side, and we add a steam port all at no additional charge. Also, we include a built-in trans cooler when requested at no additional charge.

I just got this radiator and it's plastic on top and bottom ...I'm sending it back.

Sparky's radiator looks very nice, if you are after aluminum.

If you are after a more traditional looking one, I bought one from Advance Auto Parts recently. It is called "Tough One Ready Rad" Part #: 433284

It is a little more than the Spectre one, but has the real metal tanks. Seems to be a quality piece.

You can usually get it cheaper.... Advance auto runs monthly deals, usually 15-20% off online orders and free shipping on orders over $75. Then if you use Discover Card, they are a retail partner and you get another 5% in cash back if you go through Discover's website to order. So if you are smart, you can level the playing field pretty quickly.

Thanks Trump. We have had a few guys ask if we do the stock looking tanks, but we only make them out of fabricated aluminum (thicker than the stamped stuff). A few folks have painted them black to get more of an original look. Our price is going to be higher than the imported stamped stuff, but then again for a quality, Made in the USA product, we're ok with that.

That's exactly what I just did and it's in stock at the local Advanced Auto...should of did this do begin with..live and learn I guess.

Purchased a 3 core Champion 3 years ago and it fits like a glove... 60-63 bolt right up on the radiator support. Very happy with the product..
