CPP Disc Brake Conversion Question

I purchased a 6 lug front Disc Brake conversion for my 55 2nd. The kit came with bearing adapters and explains how to install them. My question is this: Why do you need bearing adapters if the new bearings you have were made for the spindles and hubs you are using. The adpaters do not fit in the bearings and after mounting everything up to test fit don't really seem to be needed. Has anyone else installed a kit similiar to this and did they actually use the adapters? I've used the search option about a thousand times and came up with nothing related, but I did get of track several times and read some interesting threads in the process. Thanks for any help or advise you can give.

Re: CPP Disc Brake Conversion Question

I'm guessing here cause I haven't seen the kit but aren't these "adapters" actually replacement races for the tapered rollers bearings? They've gotta run on something and they aren't going to run on the same races the ball bearings ran on. Anyone?

Re: CPP Disc Brake Conversion Question

Did you get the CPP kit with the hubs or without?

I got the kit without the hubs and used my old ones with a new set of roller bearings.

My kit did not come with any kind of bearing adapter.

Re: CPP Disc Brake Conversion Question

I sent the question to CPP customer service and got a response:
"Thank you for your recent purchase. You are correct, the bearing adapters

are not required on the kit you have. Sorry for the confusion. Please contact

us if you need more info. We appreciate your business. "

I'm still not sure what application they are for, but I've got a set if I ever need them. I used my old hubs with new tapered bearings and everything fit like a dream. The first test in the driveway about put me in the windshield...big, big difference. I never really had an issue with drum brakes all the way around, but it was a nice upgrade indeed. It's got me thinking about power steering now. Thanks for al the responses.

Re: CPP Disc Brake Conversion Question

FYI: On a half ton truck, when going to five lug disc brakes, that adapter slips on the spindle. The inner wheel bearing rides on the smaller diameter area and the shoulder spaces the bearing to fit the hub. The five lug hubs and rotors are the one piece type.
