Gas filler neck seal

I just got a new gas filler seal (the rubber seal through the cab at the filler cap)- made by counterpart. It's too small and leaves unaged paint visible around it (a ring of shiny unfaded paint). Does anybody know of a better one available out there?

I got one for my 69 from a vendor in Wisconsin a couple years ago. It was in original GM packaging. Try your local Chevy dealer and ask if they are still available from GM for your year.

Ever come up to Winston Salem? This appears to be a GM seal:

You can give them a call to make sure it's not a repro.

LOL- that was where I got the counterpart seal from..... Mine is a '70 too so that part, if they still have it, won't fit. I've found with classic muscle a lot of the stuff they have in their catalog as NOS GM is long gone and they ain't getting more!

I did get official GM door pins and bushings though.

I hate that those guys are closed Saturdays. I had a buddy that works in kernersville run over there at lunch today and pick up my order for me.

Yeah, no problem....

I see you have power drum brakes.... Did you add the booster or did the truck already have it?

Added: whoops, see you have it listed as an upgrade- how do they compare before and after the booster?

Re: Gas filler neck seal

I didn't know there were different ones for different years. 71-72 are different than the rest?

I added it. My front hoses needed replaced, which led to needing new lines.... I knew I wanted to eventually go with disc brakes, so I put the booster on as I was replacing the lines and master cylinder. I actually have a disc brake set-up that I'll be putting on as soon as I have time.

Adding a booster obviously doesn't make the brakes any better...you just don't have to push very hard. The only reason I put the booster on was because I wanted to eventually go with discs.

Re: Gas filler neck seal

See post 4 in this thread for GM part numbers.

The link to the vendor where I got my GM grommet a couple years ago is below. The grommets are near the bottom of the page with the GM part numbers. Give him a call and find out if they are still GM issue.

Speak with Wes at Classic Heart Beat in Washington he is a board vendor and I believe he has them custom made and they fit!

Re: Gas filler neck seal

The GM grommets being sold now days (bar code packaging) do not hold up well, I went through two of them a few years ago, cracked in the sun in just a few months. I now have one from Classic Heartbeat, no signs of cracking or weathering so far, it's been on little over a year.
