1969 build keep the body as is or paint

About to start a frame off on this 69. Porterbuilt extreme dropmember. Who thinks I should paint and who thinks I should freshen it up and leave it with the patina?Name: $_57 (2).jpg

Gonna have to fake the patina in a few spots. The rockers for example have been replaced.

There's a lot of work involved in a frame off. With the sheet metal removed would be the time to do a nice paint job. Either way nice truck.

If you are doing a frame off, i'd say do a combo. I'm in the same position. My firewall is going to be completed, as well as my dash, mainly because it had a dent in it. Also, paint behind the cab, and the front of the bed. That way if you ever decide to do a full spray, it saves you a lot of work. Any way you go however, i'm sure it's going to look good when it's done! Best of luck with your project.

Re: 1969 build keep the body as is or paint

Looks like the PO dropped it 2 inches all the way around with springs. Those will be gone shortly as I intend it to lay frame. My initial thought is to do the frame engine comparment and interior and leave the body pretty much as is. I am having a hard time since it is going to be completely broken down not just doing the whole truck.

If you have any leanings at all about the paint I'd say do it during the frame off so you truck is not out of commission twice. Of course I am the wrong one to ask, I am a body guy and own a body shop. Jim

Paint it. The only patina that looks right is when all the sheet metal is weathered the same. I'm afraid yours would just look like an unfinished project.

What Lefty said!
I'm doing a similar thing with a stepside.
Detail the engine bay, hit where the sun doesn't shine while it's all apart, do the interior of the cab, maybe door jambs.
When you want to paint the rest of it, it's not a huge job.

Re: 1969 build keep the body as is or paint

I like it fine as is UNTIL you are ready to get the paint job you want. You may never be ready. You can try to fake in some patina in those spots which is what I'm going to do to mine for now but I know me and after a few years it will be painted if I have to do it myself. My paint always turns out great. I may have to shoot it 5 or 6 times but....

I vote since you are tearing it down and plan on hitting some areas anyway I would finish it the way you really want it. It would be a shame to tear it down twice when you could be driving it.

Re: 1969 build keep the body as is or paint

Ok paint it is. It will be taken apart in the next month. trying to take my time since it is going to take a while for the drop member to arrive after I order in the next week. Any votes on color? I'm having a hard time choosing. I'm going with a blue interior that will be very close to stock so the outside has to match blue. I'm thinking original light blue, dark blue, or silver poly.
