If it was your truck

What would you do if you got this truck? I think it's a 65. Frame is solid, almost no rust, and I think it has a title.

What do you see this truck as? Street cruiser? Restoration? Hot rod? Big block swap?

Re: If it was your truck

Twin spare tire mounts--that's interesting.
If it were me, I'd mount it on a factory 4x4 chassis.
But I'm biased, because that's exactly what I want my next build to be--4x4 long step.
If you get that truck, I'd love to buy the rear bumper from you.

Re: If it was your truck

You need to buy it right away. ASAP. IMO the steppers that are drastically lowered look better than fleets. It looks like a really solid start to a great truck. Hood repair and safe brakes and get the drive line working and you will be the envy of many. That's likely a 4 speed with granny low gear so just use 2 thru 4.

Re: If it was your truck

I would make it a cruiser, really like the dual spares! Rock that patina as best you can.

If not a 4x4, then lift it up, long steppers look so cool lifted, imo!

BTW, Yes it is a 65 by the emblems.

Re: If it was your truck

I'd hotord the 6 banger...maybe a turbo, back it by a 6 speed...put a taller tires on it...and wash it and make it a farm truck hotrod that could be used on the farm.

All Stock Restoration. Unless you hate 6's then you could drop in a V-8.

Love the Factory Granny Gear 4-Speed. Kind of Rare in a 1/2 Ton.

Agreed. Original unaltered trucks are the easiest to restore to stock. This truck looks like something you would see at the Lambrecht auction in the "trade in section".

Based on the engine perches, that engine is a 292ci.

Re: If it was your truck

4x4 it and make it a farm rig. If anything use old mack truck seats with the air ride but lower the seat frames to fit the cab. I like the dual mounts so keep em, I Love those bumpers, mine is a long step with one they help out immensely. Power brake convo. And swap it out to a v8. Oh yeah and put a spot lamp, radio, CB, and cab lights on it plus keep the WC mirrors too.

Re: If it was your truck

If you can score this at a fair price, jump on it. The long steps best option is no mods. Just restore to stock and enjoy. The value will hold over time as trend come and go but originality will always be desired.

Re: If it was your truck

Buy it. Service it. Drive it.

It's fun driving old trucks when they are old and "original"

Would look good as a 4x4 too but I'm biased

Re: If it was your truck

Well, I would (or should I say I am) doing something like this (this is my long step '64) Pretty much bone stock with the 292 and 4 speed, bench seat and stock hubcaps.

Re: If it was your truck

There is something about an old, stock truck that is good and soothing to the soul.

It doesn't matter how hard the world is kicking you in the nuts, when you jump into your old truck, roll the windows down and just drive, the world and its troubles seem to be less overwhelming.

Re: If it was your truck

I'd fix any rust, dents, and dings. Paint flat black. Blackout any chrome (including bumpers). put in a small diesel (4bt cummins would be perfect). Add a pair of stacks. Slight lift with aggressive tires. Add some roof lights and make my daily driver.
