Can heat from exhaust damage power brake conversion kit?
I am installing a 292 inline 6 in my 1/2 ton and using Langdon headers with duel exhaust. My question is will there be any heat issues running the duel exhaust just below the frame mount power brake conversion kit and next to a 700r4 transmission. One more question is how much space should I leave between steering shaft and exhaust pipe.

Re: Can heat from exhaust damage power brake conversion kit?
I would try to keep anything brake related at least 4 -6 inches away from exhaust parts. Not only does brake fluid not like heat, neither does the rubber o rings in the master cylinder.
I would give yourself about 1/2 around the steering shaft to exhaust pipe due to engine flex unless you are running solid engine mounts then you can be a little tighter.

I should have said that my truck is a 46 chevy . I have very little room for exhaust pipes but it sounds like may have a problem. Would you have any ideas about installing some sort of a heat shield and if so what. Thanks Don

I pretty well agree with Tbone1964 and would think a heat shield would be prudent if you feel that the pipes are too close to the booster or lines.

I think something like this would help, http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/au...ermal-barriers If you contact them they may have a better idea of which product they have that would solve the problem but I think their lava shield may be the best for what you want, it only needs 3/8" air gap to be effective. http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/in...al-lava-shield Last edited by 55metalmonkey; 02-17-2014 at 04:05 PM. |

Or you can use a heat shield wrap with a metal piece around it. Or if you have access to it fire safeing insulation with at metal wrap.
