Door Pilar

Had a few minutes today to work on the 51. I have the outer cowl, inner cowl and inner to outer cowl brace removed. All that is left is the door pilar. I noticed the door pilar is not 90 degrees to the rocker panel. Should it be?

Thanks!

Re: Door Pilar

No, they are not 90 degrees to the rocker panel. They angle towards the front of the cab on the outer edge. This is a critical angle as the door hinges must be right so they don't bind.
The hinge pillars must be right in this angle, and also from left side to right side of the cab.
I hope this helps, as this is very important to get door fit right.

Re: Door Pilar

No, nothing in that area is actually 90 degrees.
The rocker tilts inward at the end and the pillar is also slightly inward at the fender side of the cowl. It follows the frame taper fairly closely.

Also the kick panel has a tight bend at the door and a longer sloping bend where it meats the toe board, floor and kick panel. The replacement panels give you the idea that the rocker is out of whack but its the replacement panel that is made over sized to cover part of the floor

Re: Door Pilar

Thanks guy's! So mine are correct then. The door seemed to close fine other than worn out latches and bad gaps. The outer cowl did show signs of being over opened at one time. That's the reason I asked. I have to replace part of the rocker panel that the door pilar is welded to and goes forward toward the front wheel opening.
