this is what you are looking for. I found these at my buddy's junk yard . I was walking and tripped over them in the dirt.

The last 3 digits of the casting #'s will be:
461, 462, 492, 041, 186, and i believe 291 was also a casting number. The 492 and 186 heads are pretty desirable b/c they have accessoy holes for alternator and A/C brakets, while the others do not. And yes, camel hump heads aren't the best hi-performance heads out there, but i love mine. You can still use all the standard intakes, valvecovers, and pushrods for any SBC, and getting a rebuilt pair with a little porting work done is still a couple hundred dollars cheaper than a pair of Dart or World Products heads.

041's are not double hump heads. 041's are the same as 040's. What's a set of 461X heads worth?

You are right.....041's do also have accessory holes. Any head made after 1969 should have them. I am pretty sure Mortec.com listed 041 as a double hump head...even if they dont have the 2 humps on the end of the casting, they still are a 64cc closed chamber head, and some came with factory 2.02/1.60 valves.
461X heads are proably the rarest and most potent double hump head made....the intake runners are 10cc's larger than the standard 461 head...up from 150-something to 160-something i think. I dunno what they are worth though.......

Camel HUMP heads were good at one time, years ago. The newer stuff flows just as good and are more reliable. The Vortex flow the best.

Is this what the stroker part of the deal comes from?
Or is it just one of the many heads you can use? Cheers |

Na, stroke comes from the size of the crankshaft (and determines how far the pistons travel up and down). The size of the ports and valves in the heads determines how much fuel and air they will flow, and compression pretty much determines how hard the combustion will be (like sticking dynamite in a brick)

thanks,
I know now that I have a set of camel back heads, I will have them built and use them on some ptoject. You have been very helpful and it is that which makes the board worthwhile.
