Which patch panel do I need for this?
Like most 55-59 trucks I see, my recently acquired '59 apache has rust holes in the rear of the lower door hinge pocket on both sides. They were literally PACKED with mud before I cleaned them out.
I see numerous patch panels available but can't quite put together which one I need just by looking at the pictures online. Can somebody please look at these pictures from my truck and tell me which panel I need exactly? Thanks |

You need the inner, outer pillar panels and possibly (most likely) the lower hing panel

OK thanks. The outer pillar looks solid from the inside and out so I think I can just do the inners.

They always look solid til you bust off the inners and find they are cheese. It would be unusual to have only the inner be rotted, but go for it maybe you'll get lucky

Everything else is solid. Only other rust I've found on the dab was the very bottom of the door. The joint where the inner meets the outer door skin.

Re: Which patch panel do I need for this?
I'm in the process of repairing that area on mine. There was areas on mine that looked good, but once I started tearing into it I found that some areas where worse than I thought. And some really pitted bad and hard to weld patches back on cuz it's so thin. Some of it you can't see until it's apart.
Hopefully when you do get into it, it is as solid as it looks from the outside.

You might be in for replacing more than you can see.
Checkout my build thread. I show in detail how I rebuilt that entire area on my '57. |

Looks a little better than mine did... I'm afraid that when you start grinding on the rusty stuff more stuff is going to crumble. Or when you start welding you'll be blowing holes in the stuff you thought was "good".
