Snagged a '48-53 suburban from the crusher
Driving by the scrap yard a couple days ago I couldn't believe what I saw.
I stopped and verbally bought it off the pile. Then I had to call my banker so she could collect the $ and I could go pick it up after I got off work. I told her I bought an old suburban and let's just say, she was less than pleased. I was not expecting this. She still wasn't happy until we pulled in and saw it. Then she became excited and said "Oh! It's an ooold suburban. Heck yah we are taking it home!" I never told her the year and she was expecting an 80's basket case. You've got to love a hotrod wife!!! It is very rusty and damaged from the fork lift, but it was worth it.

Nice to see another one saved. What are you going to do about the side? Or are you using this for parts?

Your a good man Eugene....It's people like you that help to keep this hobby alive. It has gotten crazy the last several years with the amount of vintage metal being crushed...
Nice work. Marc

Re: Snagged a '48-53 suburban from the crusher
It is also the rare color green. I think 95% of all the suburbans sold must have been in that color. I see so many in that color.

Re: Snagged a '48-53 suburban from the crusher
I neglected to include a photo of the interior. Both front seats are there and in good shape.
Someone used spray foam all over the roof and inbetween the walls for insulation. I'll bet it was cold to ride in back in the day. I really don't need anything from it, but I know it's getting harder to find panel / suburban parts.

Re: Snagged a '48-53 suburban from the crusher
Yes, it did have curtains and as for shipping, I haven't had a road trip in awhile.

Re: Snagged a '48-53 suburban from the crusher
Good save, I'm surprised that someone would have junked it. It looks like it was in decent condition before the fork lift got hold of it.

I do have the part that goes over the window to repair that section in my sheet metal stash though but I don't know if it is much less rusty than that one.

Here's a further look at the rust. I am willing to cut anything off this panel and am flying south next month, so items could be shipped from there. Does anyone need anything?

Re: Snagged a '48-53 suburban from the crusher
You didn't tell me that it had flip up running boards. Just like the newer Suburbans or Escalades. I bet that was a rare option in 52.
Ever hear back from Iceburg? Let me know. Marc

Re: Snagged a '48-53 suburban from the crusher
I just verbally bought a '53 panel that I have to pickup on 04-15 so I am sending the remains of the burb back to the crusher soon so I can free up the trailer. I'll post pictures of it when I get it.
