Rare Rims !!!

A local guy is advertising these rims and caps saying they were removed from a 70 GMC when new, store in a garage and never used. He wants ( in my estimation ) quite a bit of money for these and I guess my question are they rare and desirable. Sorry guys, they are 5 hole 15 inch rims and dont know the thickness.

Re: Rare Rims !!!

If they are 70 thin they are most likely 6 lug... guess they could be 8 lug if it was a 3/4 ton. If they are 6" rims then they probably are not worth a huge amount... if they are 8" they could be worth a fair amount, same as if 7"

That is my opinion. the set could be worth it to someone doing an original restoration and has to have all original parts and paint.

Correct. Hard to tell on my computer, but the second in from the left looks convex to me. Upon blowing up the picture it may be concave. And if they are from a 70, they would not be 5 lug.

Re: Rare Rims !!!

Those wheels and caps came on the "Corvette Optioned" trucks. They are made out of a special alloy, the same used on the lunar rover that rolled across the moon. Light weight and very strong. If the guy was smart, he would put them on ebay with a reserve at $68,000.00.

Re: Rare Rims !!!

Value would be a relative issue...To the GMC guy looking for OEM originals thay're priceless! To me, a guy with now two 72 Chevy's, I might consider $25 dollars a piece...Which reminds me, I need to to post up pics of "Belle" the newest addition to "Ghostrider Industries"...

Correct. These were only available with the ambulance engine. Some even had the ultra rare hood mounted antenna option.

Wow - he thinks highly of them, although they do seem pretty nice. The GMC caps are harder to find, but they are not what I'd consider rare, IMO. Who knows though - if somebody has been looking long enough for a set, they may jump on them.

I couldn't tell, either. Some looked concave and some looked convex. That's why I said "if". Turns out they're '72 after all. Just a tad off on that price. Thanks for posting,Greg. Do the guy a favor and contact him and suggest he come here to get educated,if he really wants to sell those wheels

I think I may contact him and go have a look cause maybe he has other parts tucked away.

I don't know but it looks to me that he only has a decent matching set of stock wheels and caps is all. Not exactly rare or special. It would just save someone the trouble of finding enough to make up a matching set is all. The guy has his price a good bit high for the average truck owner but as you well know there is someone out there who will give that price and be glad to have them then spend even more bucks on them to make them look like new again. To each his own as they say.

Re: Rare Rims !!!

The word rare is so subjective and immediately thought of as valuable. This isn't like a mint long box or tailgate pulled off for a camper, and even those don't command absurd prices! Off the top of my head I can think of typewiters, beta disc, and top load vcr's, all of them becoming more scarce and rare, but not more valuable.
