unknown dash keeping me from my truck...

Hey all - it's been a loooong time since I've posted anything - just getting reunited with the site again (went through the second AND LAST/FINAL/Never again... big D...did I say NEVER???).

Anywho, I can't get to my truck because I can't figure out what this gm product came out of. It came in a '59 stude I'm working on (PO). Until I can get the answer, I can't get this done and back to my truck...

It took a while to figure out how to relate it to my '72 before I posted... I know most of the traffic is in this area so I tried to make it about the '72

It has part numbers on the back - found all kinds of stuff online - only comes back as chevrolet 83-85 light truck... 10 hours online, I can't ID it. It looks CLOSE to the regular truck dashes but it has idiot lights in the middle. Looks similiar to van dashes as well... I can't ID it. Anyone???

I promise to get back on my truck once I get this done. Thanks all!

Re: unknown dash keeping me from my truck...

I am going to go with what you found online. That does not look like any S10 dash that I have had. The early models had a dome over them for lenses before the funky arched version came out around 87. Other than the idiot lights I would say that it came out of a truck and had the end pieces cut off. My only other thought is something like a motorhome on a van chasis. I would think that it would be the same wiring plug so the exact id wouldnt matter. Follow the circuit board and repin the plug to work.

Looks like the gauges I put in my 77 scottsdale I had, or very close...that was a while back. They came out of a 84 chevy truck...but it had the ends as said above

Re: unknown dash keeping me from my truck...

Glad that was taken care of I could promise It was not of S-10. I built S-trucks. I had At least one of every year model through the entire run up to a couple of hundred of some. Man I loved those trucks, they fed clothed and educated my kids in school, or at least the money they brought did. With the help of a few dozen Silverados. But I just said that to say this I had been through a few S-10's/S-15[remember the GMC's too]and none were like that. Jim

Re: unknown dash keeping me from my truck...

Thanks all. I will start looking some more to confirm what's been suggested. If I can ID it, then the wiring harness can be deciphered and gauges replaced with some cool stuff. I'll post some pics in the proper area when I get some progress made. Man I've missed this site!

Re: unknown dash keeping me from my truck...

I think Mario solved your puzzle. They look like chevette gauges. Now push the stude out of the way and DRIVE your truck.

Re: unknown dash keeping me from my truck...

Found ONE set of pictures on the net so far that DO confirm chevette. Next issue is to figure out how they were able to get them to work on an entire wiring harness for an 85'ish chevy pickup... no harness molestation apparent either.... anywhoooo, going to pick up some book cases in the next day or two so it's time to fire up the ol' truck and get rolling. Probably going to wash it today too, just to do it! HA.
