67 w/ 350

Just bought it two days ago.. had it running this morning but the carb was busted.. had someone choking it under the hood at idle.

Bought a new carb hooked it all up w/ all vacuums attached.

I turned it over and then it would die.. so I adjust the A/F screws I got it to an idle then over a short time it died.

Now I can't get it to crank..

I appreciate the help, thanks in advance.

What led you to believe the carb was "busted"? Was it physically broken? Like a cracked base plate? What carb? New or used? Who/what was "choking" it?

Most "carb" problems turn out to be ignition or timing problems initially.

Anyways... the "new " carb could be flooding out or not providing any pump shot.

Thanks for the quick response..

The choke linkage was broken on the old carb ( Edelbrock 1406 ) and was showing small cracks.

I purchased a new 1406 and I'm currently replacing the plugs.. might as well since they were on my list.

Keep in mind it DID run with the old carb..

I would look at the fuel filter and fuel pump first , You had to choke it to get it to run then it stopped running altogether sounds like fuel pump .

it would run at an idle with the old carb but I had to adjust the choke manually.

It ran with the new carb but then it just died.. that's when I couldn't get it to crank back up.

What intake manifold did you bolt it to?

Re: 67 w/ 350

Do you have fuel going into the engine ? did you try to prime it with gas or carb cleaner to see if it would start ? did you change the filter when you bolted a new carb on ?

UPDATE:

I've pulled the plugs and put the #1 in the wire.. touched it to the block and had someone turn the key..

No spark..

Re: 67 w/ 350

Is the intake aluminum? Or a painted cast iron stocker? Reason I ask is that the Edelbrock carbs won't bolt directly to a stock cast iron GM SBC intake without an adapter.

Sounds like you need to get the ignition up to snuff before you do any more troubleshooting with the carb.

Gary

stocker for sure, but I have the adapter.

Could it be the coil? since it was running at idle.. then just slowly died.

Sorry for all the questions..

Re: 67 w/ 350

I appreciate all the help! turns out it was possibly the easiest fix..

The Coil B+ wire had disconnected..

Now I'm stuck on why it dies after putting into gear!

Thanks guys.
