Hood Hinge Question
I need to replace the worn out hood hinges (pins are sloppy) on my 67' and am looking for advice on whether I should go for genuine GM parts or whether one of the aftermarket hinges is "as good" or perhaps even better. I've read several times where the current production OEM hinges are not near the quality they used to be and some are saying that certain brand non-oem hinges are actually better quality than what you can get at the Chevy dealer today. Thoughts and opinions please.
Ideally I'd like to find a set of new-old-stock hinges but suspect that is highly unlikely that I would locate a set....at a decent price.

Re: Hood Hinge Question
I asked recently and didn't get much help either. I'm pretty close to buying them from GMC Pauls fwiw.

Re: Hood Hinge Question
Any idea what "brand" of re-pop hinges GMC Pauls is carrying and have you seen these or gotten any first hand feedback from those who have used his hinges?

Re: Hood Hinge Question
New hinges powder coated chrome for $210.00 is a deal. No exchange. Life time warrinty as long as you own the vihicle.
I have never seen a old set of hinges that a person redid themselves come close to these. Over 2 years old and look brand new. Worth every penny. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=525638&page=2

Re: Hood Hinge Question
Looks like GM is finally about out of hood hinges, only RH is available:
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/restora...tocategory.cfm You don't want to cheap out on the hinges. I've seen the cheap repop ones fold in from the spring pressure.

Re: Hood Hinge Question
They were redone by Willie. GM hinges. I have 2 more sets at the house that need redoing. But I don't have anymore trucks so they are just sitting on the shelf in the garage.

I just launched an email to the hinge repair guy to see what he offers outright. We'll see what he has available. I'll also contact GMC Paul and see what he has to say about his re-pop hinges.

Re: Hood Hinge Question
Anyone have any feedback on the "GoodMark" brand of hinges? Summit carries them and they are a next day option for me.

Re: Hood Hinge Question
Here is the reply I received from the Hood Hinge Repair Folks....
We do offer hinges straight out, without a core trade in. I have to charge you a flat 50.00 core fee up front, that is refundable to any people that send me a original core set off the same vintage trucks, 67-72. Then we charge 150.00 to rebuild that core, in either a bare metal or primer finish. We offer a few painted options, such as the Zinc Phosphate spray on finish for 25.00. That finish is the closest to the original GM Phosphate that came from the factory, that we offer. Cast blast is another grey option, that is lighter, and is very popular for the same price. Flat, satin, chassis, semi-gloss, and gloss black are also 25.00 as well. Powder coat is offered in any color you like from the Eastwood catalog or from their website color chart for 75.00 dollars and is very durable. That is 200.00, plus shipping for bare metal or primer hinges, 225.00 for painted and 275.00 for powder coat hinges, no cores needed. We accept PayPal for a quick and timeless way to pay instantly with a credit card. We also accept checks and money orders. We would need your full ship to address and phone number to complete any hinge order. Thanks and I hope we can help you out. Re: Hood Hinge Question
Hmm, I assumed you would get your same set back. I guess that they would fit the same but as we all know, no two parts are identical.

Re: Hood Hinge Question
Does anyone know a source for the hinge rivets? With a good press one should be able to redo the hinge yourself. Probably have to fabricate the rivet mandrel.

Re: Hood Hinge Question
Do you think it is just the rivets that are worn or is it a combination of the rivets being worn and the hole being enlarged over time?

Re: Hood Hinge Question
Get a tight OEM set (parts forum if need be) then have them phosphate coated - you'll be shocked at how good the result is. Better than paint or powder coat IMO and not too expensive. See the hinges on my K20 build in my signature. You can get hood hinges, hood latches, door striker plates, and a pile of bolts/screws phosphate coated like GM did for ~$100
