OPTION: Compasses

Guys,

Anyone know which compasses (Dinsmore & Air Guider, or just Dinsmore?) where used for the 1st & 2nd series Chevy & GMC trucks? Where can you find out the various "options" that were offered for our trucks? I'm sure that it's obvious that I'm a newbie; I've just converted after 45 years to GM and it feels great. My Dad has disowned me but I can't help that Ford was completely void of style during this period. Am I right? Thanks to anyone who can help with the compass question and options in general.

Regards, Mike

Re: OPTION: Compasses

Well they are handy if you are running around the back roads in the woods.

I'd say putting one in your truck all depends on the "theme" of the build or restoration. If you are restoring the truck to showroom stock plus all of the dealer installed accessories that were available, head on and put one in it as it fits the theme. If you have 20 inch billet wheels, an LS engine and bucket seats NO, it doesn't fit the build.

I've always liked them since I was a kid and if I was doing a restoration or resto truck I'd probably be looking for one.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: OPTION: Compasses

I don't know which were used. I was told dealers had options. Mine is a 12v lit version. On eBay I picked up a new one from the 50's era and put it in after the magnet in this one became funky. Not much help. Sorry. -Doug

If you are not using the stock mirror, use one of these, not that hard to install and you can get the temp sensor and auto dim feature as well. http://www.yotatech.com/f2/gen-3-aut...nstall-134747/

Mine (under the dice) is marked Air Way. It was a gift from a co-worker so I have no knowledge of it's provenance but it looks period correct and works great.
