Oil pump priming

Alright getting close to starting up my second 5.3. The both engines are from 2007's new body style with AFM. Now this engine has sat on a stand for 3 years.. I would assume that I would need to prime the oil pump like I would on an old sbc? Usually I would have just pulled the dist and put a long common screwdriver down and prime it that way, but with the newer engine obviously doesn't have a dist.. what have you guys done to your engines after they have sat for 3+ years on a stand? obviously don't want to fire it up without seeing oil Px within the first 10 seconds.. suggestions?

Disable the ign & fuel to the engine, remove the spark plugs....crank the starter 15-20 seconds at a time, until you see pressure @ the guage. After that, plug it all back in, & fire her up? Longhorn

Your going to have to turn it over cause the oil pump is driven off front the crank

There is a tool for this, and you can build one yourself.

Its a force primer, sorta like a reverse brake bleeder, or the lift pumps you would use for lubing a rear end.

Ls1tech and youtube have how-to's on making one.

HERE is an example that uses an electric pump.... notice the port where the primer pump is attached...

I have done the pull coil wires and plugs crank the key until you get pressure on two different swaps and no problems. I'm not going to lie though, I was nervous both times.

Not to "muddy the waters here"....I can see the point to do a power prime on that high end engine. On a stocker, that has already run in, I don't see the need to? That roller cam , stock lobes, or mild profiles just wont have any issues that we have seen with the flat tappet hyd grinds? If the bearings are lubbed, you should be good to go Longhorn
