Re: 1969 wrecker

I had one and I don't know what it weighed. I'd say it's like a pickup with some stuff in it.

Re: 1969 wrecker

After restoring one, I can tell you that the box is GAWD AWFUL heavy! I'd say it's like a pickup with another pickup in the box.

I never had mine weighed but would love to know the answer to this one myself.

Re: 1969 wrecker

Depending on the bed, is it a dual boom single boom or dual winch or did they have those then? I'm guessing the bed in the 1500# range. Those things were some heavy pieces of equipment.

Re: 1969 wrecker

The weight should be between 6500-7500 pounds. I would recommend at least a 10k trailer.

Re: 1969 wrecker

I towed this '69 GMC with my 1/2 ton truck and 7k trailer with no issues.

I'm glad you didn't have any problems, but I guarantee you that trailer and hitch on your truck was overloaded. 7k trailers are best used for lighter weight vehicles.

Re: 1969 wrecker

Most things have a pretty decent safety rating on them.

Re: 1969 wrecker

To the OP, how big is your trailer and how far would you have to haul the wrecker before you made it home?

I hauled the one pictured above 11 miles. I know my limitations along with the limitations of my equipment, so I was comfortable hauling that one.
