NorCal Noob seeks starter truck
I miss my old '72 long fleet...don't even have a pic on the PC. 283, Black primer 15x8's in the front 10's in the back, cut coils. Definitely a ratrod, Retson, but I loved the ride...sold it when I moved up here to Clearlake.
Longstory short, I just got the Wife's o.k. to find a new project, so I'm looking for a starter truck. Cruising CL daily. I have a SBC/700R4 in a '72 Jag XJ in my driveway...figure on using at least the motor/trans.... I'm a shadetree type guy, have tools, torch, a hoist, don't mind getting greasy. More likely to have time to crawl under a thing than to spend money.. Friends include a couple old Chevy guys and a hotshot welder. Well, enough about me..... |

Re: NorCal Noob seeks starter truck
Looked through ads here...Sac., Bay Area, Santa Rosa, Redding..... My Zip is 95422. I could get my neighbor's truck n trailer for anything that I couldn't drive here. Looking mainly w/in 100 mi. or so.....And I check the ads here every day.
I've seen some trucks: 3/4's, stepsides, 73-5's, utility beds....I'm focusing on '71 or '72 fleets for now, unless I find something really interesting. I do want to avoid that whole 'smog' thing, too...I'd rather spend the day burning out a-arm bushings and greasing wheel bearings... |

If you're willing to drive there are good deals. Look in the sfbay craigslist.

Re: NorCal Noob seeks starter truck
Couple of trucks out in Brentwood and Fremont. That's kind of far from Clearlake, but the price is right. Probably a lot of rust on them tho...

Re: NorCal Noob seeks starter truck
Thanks. Big blocks and rust are deal killers for me....can't afford either. I did e-mail the guy with the apart short step in Healdsburg....found out there's a running 283 for it. I like those motors. We've got some (much needed...) rain on tap for the next few days. Hoping to go look this weekend. Guess I could live with a stepside till I found a fleet bed for it.

Re: NorCal Noob seeks starter truck
If you have not already tried it Searchtempest will allow you to do a search of CL based on milage your willing to drive. It saves you some time searching each individual city and might locate something your missing.
Good Luck, hope you find a good one soon.
