62 fuel tank relocation

I'm looking at purchasing a tank kit for my 62 but it seems like the online companies have them starting in 63? does anyone know if the 63 kit works on a 62? is it possible to do the conversion with the bed on or does it need to come off ? Thanks

I do not know if the '63 + tanks will work or not. The '60-'62 frames are wider, but I don't know if there is enough room between the crossmembers.

Grab an old Blazer tank and modify it to fit. Cost you a couple hundred dollars.

I recently got a universal tank from Tanks Inc. and installed it between the frame rails of my 62. I had to remove the spare tire bar and grind the rivets holding the rear frame support so it could be moved back about 6". I had removed the wood from the bed in anticipation of replacing it so I had access from the top. I'm sure you could do it without removing the bed, I just think it'd be a lot easier if you did. Im installing a tank out of a 65 mustang II i got at rockauto for 130 bucks. low profile, and fits between the frame rails of my 62. fill neck will come up through the bed. check em out.

I've got a '66 C10 Shortbed stepside and I am installing a gas tank from a 65-68 Mustang in between my rear frame rails. I have to notch the top frame rails to get it to sit down, but then I just drill some holes in the frame where the tank flanges are and it bolts right in. No need for straps and it is low profile. The tanks are 16 gallons and I just have to update a fuel gauge to the Ford Ohm range of 10-73 ohms.

I bought the tank at a local salvage yard for $5. I'll clean it out with some Muratic Acid and then Flush. I will then make any repairs needed to it, then coat the outside with the Flex Seal spray in a can. So I'll have a rear mount fuel tank setup for under $50.
