02 silverado 4.8 auto & NO Spark?

This is my buddies truck. Its a regular cab short bed v8. It all of a sudden wont start, been down for 3 weeks now. Good fuel pump, he replaced a few sensors but I don't recall which ones, replaced all fuses but the truck has 8 coils he says & all 8 cylinders don't have spark. Im wondering what controls the coils. He said it has good ground but maybe thats the problem??? I told him to replace the 3 year old battery, who knows but do any of you have any suggestions what parts he can try replacing. Truck turns over but wont fire...
On a side note I offered to give him $1500 for his truck, its a cool single cab shorty, haha...
Thanks for reading & He would appreciate any leads...
