Choke rod to short.
I was going to put a Mr. Gasket carb adapter on my truck. After I bought it I noticed the choke rod on the divorced choke will be 3/4th of an inch to short, because the adapter raises the carb up 3/4th of an inch. Does any one make a choke that has a longer rod?

Re: Choke rod to short.
There are some replacement divorced choke rods available for some stock applications. But I don't think I've ever seen a longer one available for use with a carb spacer/adapter.
In those cases, I usually just bend my own from a piece of 1/8" welding rod. The hardest part is drilling a hole for a tiny cotter pin or cutting a groove for a small retainer clip to hold the rod on the carburetor end. |

How does the rod fit into the spring?

Re: Choke rod to short.
They usually have a 90 degree bend at the lower end of the rod and the bent part just slides into a rolled loop that's formed on the end of the spring.
The sheetmetal cover over the spring is primarily there to hold in heat but it also serves as a retainer to keep the lower end of the rod from sliding sideways out of the rolled end of the spring. |

Re: Choke rod to short.
I have recently been getting some info from the board about chokes and choke operation. I recall reading that several folks use a spacer to get heat out of the carb in the summer. Not what is needed in the winter. It’s probably not an issue where you live. Just a thought. This is some info related to a Rochester 2G.

Re: Choke rod to short.
I lengthened the rod. I used a coat hanger. It was close to the same diameter. My rod has a clip on the end of it. I made it 7/8's of an inch longer.
