Head Install Quest
Removed the 882's heads from the truck today. Question is what should I use to seal the Temp Sensor with, should I use silicon to seal the bottom head bolts (that go through the water), should I do anything to the Lifters? Any tips would be apprecitated. Thanks.

Wrap teflon tape around the temp sending unit to seal it up. I usually wrap it around the fitting about 3 times, and it provides a nice leak-free seal.
I would put sealant on all the head bolts, but not silicon. Use a copper sealant, perferably the kind that comes in a little bottle so you can dip the bolt in the bottle and thread it in. When i swapped my heads i used a copper selant in a spray can, Permatex Ultra-Copper i believe. It workes pretty good. On the lifters, if you didn't change cams or anything, just leave them alone.

don't use anything on the temp sensor, it should be brass and will seal on its own with proper tightening. anything on the threads can cause connection issues as the sensor case/threads serve as the sensors ground.
for the head bolts use permatex #2 sealant, we've used it for years and haven't had a problem. Be sure to clean all the threads and torque to the proper setting and in the right sequence. For the lifters, Yellows right, if you didn't change the cam leave them be, they will be fine.

Oldyeller, the temp sending units i have used actually have smaller threads than the fittings, so there is no way to get them tight. The instruction manuals for the guages also reccomendd using teflon sealent of some kind.
BTW, those have both been on mechanical guages. With a electrical guage, it may be different.
