Name That Drop!

Hi all, my '68 step side has been dropped but I'm not sure how much. Hoping you guys can help me figure it out. Front: 29" to the highest point on the fender lip. Rear: 30.75" to the same point. Running 255/70/15's all the way around tires inflated to 35psi. So what do I have?

One more question, on a typical 4/6" or 5/7" drop, is the measurement to the fender lip the same? Or is the back usually higher than the front like mine is?

Back is usual higher, but 1.75 is more than most. I'd guess with the 29" tres on there you have a 4 drop in the front. Not as sure for the rear. I have a SWB lip at 29" with 29" tire and 6" drop. If the lips are the same location on bed then back is also about 4".

If i recall, its a 2" drop from rear to front from the factory.

So that difference isn't too bad. As to your actual drop, i couldn't say... all my parts are still in their boxes

I'm going to put 2" lowering blocks in the back, that should put me at 29" all around. Also going to use the shock relocating brackets, will I need shorter shocks?? What length shocks should I be using in back?

If you are going to run 2" blocks in back with 15" rims you run a good chance of scrubbing if you get a flat... If you are replacing the shocks anyway, I would say just get 2" springs and skip the blocks.

I should have mentioned that I am about to put 18" wheels on it. Also, I read that it is better to use lowering blocks instead of shorter springs because the geometry isn't changed.

I am going to run 18" wheels very soon. The rear end has already been lowered somewhat by using shorter springs. The blocks would be for the last couple of inches.
