1970 disk brake conversion

converting 1970 c/10 2wd to disc brake and inner tie rods will not fit center drag link hole to small for tie rod end to fit help

What parts are you trying to use?
Centerlink, tie rods and spindles all have to match.
What year spindles?

1971 spindles and all parts new for 1971

Centerlink is from the 1970 model

Centerlink needs to be 71-72.
63-70 and 73-87 are different.

Thank You for the answer I thought that was what I needed to do. So now I will have to go to a junk dealer to get one because that item is not avaible at the part houses. That part is consider non wearable so it doesn't need replacing. Bobby

Also I took some off the taper of inner tie rods to help them fit the taper to get the nut to pull in for carter key to fit. kept stripping 1/2 inch by 20 nut. Got both to work and tighten up in center link.

This is why I always recommend 63-70 conversion spindles for pre-'71 trucks.
They are a direct bolt on and the same price as 71-72 and 73-87 spindles. ($229)
There is alot of OLD info on the internet that is still being repeated today.

True all the parts are available new for a direct and correct fit. However you still have many that think they save money by buying used stuff at the junk yard.

I'll post my results and thoughts since I just finished this swap up and maybe it will help people in the future. I thought that I could use the 88-98 spindles, rotors, and calipers from the local junk yard since I was going to stay 6 lug. Using this option also affords you and easy way to go 5 lug later if you decide to with a simple disc swap from the same years. I did my research and knew the parts need (thanks to this site and the disc brake reference guide) and if everything that I picked up at the yard had worked I might have been ok, but in the end having to replace lower control arm, all ball joints, tie rod ends, new rotors, calipers, and pads....I should have just bought a kit. If I had to do over again, I would have order the power disc brake conversion off of ebay or site vendor and been better off. good luck with everything

I also hear there is camber issues with this swap.
Can you confirm that?
Have you had your truck aligned yet?

don't want to hijack this thread but I just have a quick question about the center link. Is a three-quarter ton 2 wheel drive centerlink and a half ton centerlink the same for the 71 72 s?

I have not but it is out quite a bit...so hopefully not. I should have it aligned in a week or so, ill try to report back. Have you heard if drop spindle help with this at all? I have 3" springs and considered a 2" drop spindle but not sure if its necessary or if 5" of oil pan clearance on the 5.3 is enough do drive safely
