OK...I've measured, its not 5.7 or 7, its more like 6.5. IT HAS THE RIDGES ON IT LIKE THE PICS OF A LWP BUT iVE BEEN TOLD ITS A SHORT. I KNOW THE po PUT A NEW ONE ON IT BUT HES UNSURE HIMSELF. lOOK AT THE PICS AND LET ME KNOW. I NEED PS HELP AND THIS IS WHERE I NEED TO START.

If you can put your fingers between the pump and timing chain cover it's a long, if not it's short.

A long pump has the power steering mount on the driver's side of the pump. This mount is a protrusion on the driver's side that has a 3/8th inch hole going front to back. A bolt goes through the front of the mount, then through this protrusion and tightens in the threaded receiver at the back of the mount. It also has a lot of space between the back of the pump and the timing cover. Short pump has almost no space between the pump and the timing cover. You have a short pump, by the pictures.

Also wanted to add that to the best of my knowledge, all 69 and later chevy cars and the 73 and later GM trucks were all long water pump equipped with a pass. side mounted alternator. Mel

Thats a long pump look at the space between waterpump and timing cover. My old motor had a short pump and there was hardly any clearance between pump and cover. Good luck hope u get her fixed up

What about this post. Look up one.

Thats a long pump look at the space between waterpump and timing cover. My old motor had a short pump and there was hardly any clearance between pump and cover. Good luck hope u get her fixed up

Go to your local auto parts store and ask to see both of them, long and short, so you can see the difference for yourself.

As far as the post above that is right IF the engine or accessories on your engine have not been changed sometime in the last 40 + years. It happens.

Yeah, thats the pic that confused me at first. It's a short pump.

You can bet your money on that.

I'm sorry so many guys are giving you wrong answers. Folks on here don't seem to realize that giving bum advice can cause people to spend money on the wrong things.

To me, that just looks like the wrong steering pump. Post some pics with a tape measure of both the water and steering pump to give us a better idea, but I don't think it's going to make a difference whether the water pump is long or short. Heck, if you lived up here I'd give you a water pump if it'd make a difference. I don't know as much as a lot of guys on here, but something just looks wrong. Best of luck.

Its the right pump. Its a Saginaw same dimensions just a bigger reservoir. I've measured the crap out of it..LOL

Maybe it's a Corvette water pump, they will measure at about 6.5".
